PURGATORY

Thoughts fly in an endless stream, they have differentmanifestations and forms: memories, imagination, associations, feelings andbeliefs. Our face is the projector, but our thoughts are similar to theslides, which our imagination is changing at high speed. All these infinitemanifestations of the consciousness can be caught, but not so easy to rememberand see with a naked eye. If someone doubts, there are many different emotions,which are changing rapidly, but not one exact emotion.

In developing this idea, the author proposes: making portraiture with a short exposure (e.g.1/4000s, 1/8000s) photographer has more chance to virtually stop thoughts todeal with certain, precise emotion, than with a longer exposure (e.g. 1/60s,1 / 100s).

In an effort to find an answer, the author offers a experimentalportrait series "Purgatory". These “short-exposure theory” photosessions took place in conditions, which are not typical for a man. It isknown that various types of external signals makes us to react at differentspeeds - we respond more quickly to the sound than light, the bright lightsquicker than dull, the red light faster than the white or green, to emergencysituations more quickly than to a peaceful one. The author's chosen methodof photography became an integral part of underlining and highlighting thepurity of the moment caught. As a result, people get almost supernatural character,which moved them somewhere between heaven and earth. In a purgatory.
